Hyderabad fertility scam deepens: Four new FIRs filed; NRI couple duped of Rs 25 lakh
Hyderabad: The alleged IVF and surrogacy scam linked to Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Hyderabad has widened, with the Gopalpuram police registering four additional FIRs.
The new complaints, filed by victims including NRI couples, accuse the centreās management of fraud, medical malpractice and financial extortion running into crores.
Fresh FIRs after new complaints
Police sources revealed that investigations intensified after several new victims stepped forward with documented evidence, including medical reports and transaction details.
The complaints point to an elaborate scheme in which couples were lured with false promises of parenthood through IVF and surrogacy procedures.
A couple from Nalgonda district alleged they were cheated of Rs 44 lakh by the centre, headed by Dr Namratha, the fertility manager. Others named in the FIR include Dr Sadanandam, Chenna Rao, Archana and Surekha, alleged associates who played active roles in the scam.
Hyderabad woman claims medical exploitation
In a separate case, a Hyderabad-based woman accused Dr Namratha of administering unnecessary hormone injections under the guise of fertility treatment. She claimed to have been financially extorted through a network of individuals, including Dr Vidyulatha, Kalyani, Seshagiri and Srinivasa Reddy, all staff linked to the fertility centre.
NRI victims also targeted
Adding an international dimension to the case, one complaint came from an NRI couple who were allegedly duped of Rs 25 lakh. Police said these points to the scamās transnational reach, with the fertility centre accused of targeting non-resident Indians who were desperate to have children.
Organised network suspected
Investigators believe that the scam may be part of a larger, well-coordinated racket exploiting legal loopholes and the emotional vulnerability of childless couples. Police are now probing links between the accused and possible external facilitators, and further arrests are likely.
Background of the case
The alleged scam came to light earlier this year when initial complaints were filed by couples who claimed they were misled and exploited under the promise of IVF and surrogacy procedures. The Gopalpuram police began a formal investigation, which has since uncovered a pattern of deceit and extortion.
So far, multiple individuals associated with the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre have been named in FIRs. Officials say they are examining clinic records and financial trails to build a watertight case.
Legal action likely to intensify
With more victims expected to come forward, police are expanding the investigation into what appears to be one of the most serious cases of fertility-related fraud in the state. Legal experts anticipate that the case could result in criminal proceedings under multiple sections, including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and violations of medical ethics.
