Hyderabad: Fire engulfs furniture shops at Bachupally; property worth ₹5 Cr lost

Hyderabad: A massive fire damaged several furniture shops near Vignan VNR College under the Bachupally Police Station limits in Medchal–Malkajgiri district on Tuesday night.

Fire breaks out in furniture shop
According to police, the fire initially erupted in a furniture shop located adjacent to KGR Convention near Vignan VNR College. The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit.
Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly to nearby shops, fueled by wooden furniture and other flammable materials.
Flames spread to multiple shops
The Bachupally–Miyapur main road stretch from KGR Convention Centre to the Sai Nagar road junction has nearly 25 furniture stores. The fire quickly engulfed several of these establishments, reducing furniture, wooden materials, and other goods to ashes.
Local traders expressed concern about the scale of destruction, noting that most shops stored large quantities of timber and finished furniture, which intensified the fire.

Gas cylinders explode, locals panic
Some shop owners reportedly reside inside their shops. During the fire, cooking gas cylinders used by them exploded with loud blasts, triggering panic among residents in the surrounding area. Locals ran out of their homes fearing further explosions.
Fire teams battle massive blaze
The incident occurred around 11 pm on Tuesday. After receiving information, fire department personnel rushed to the spot with fire engines and launched firefighting operations.
A fire department official confirmed that teams were working to bring the blaze under control.
“We received information that a fire broke out near Vignan College. Fire vehicles were immediately dispatched. The fire is extensive, but our teams are working to control it. So far, no casualties have been reported,” the official said.
Police register case
Authorities confirmed that no loss of life has been reported in the incident. Bachupally police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
