Upon extinguishing the flames, authorities found a significant amount of cash, estimated to be worth crores of rupees, on the first floor of the building. The incident, which took place at Bairi Srinivas Reddy's residence, has raised questions about the origin of the seized money.
The fire originated on the ground floor of the house, apparently due to a short circuit that ignited wooden boxes. Local residents quickly alerted the fire brigade, and firefighters responded to the distress call, successfully extinguishing the flames and preventing further damage.
During the post-fire survey of the premises, the police, led by Inspector Sai Eshwar Goud from Gopalapuram Police Station, made a startling discovery. On the first floor, they found a substantial sum of cash, amounting to approximately Rs 1 crore, 64 lahks, and 45 thousand. Additionally, the police also seized gold and silver ornaments.
Bairi Srinivas Reddy, an electrical contractor in Vizag and a resident of the house, was not present at the time of the incident. When questioned by the police over the phone, he provided unsatisfactory answers regarding the cash. The source and purpose of the significant cash stash remain unknown, prompting a thorough investigation by the authorities. The police have informed income tax officials to initiate further scrutiny into the matter.
Inspector Sai Eshwar Goud stated, "We are currently investigating the origin of the seized money and working closely with the income tax department to determine its legality.
