Hyderabad: For the first time in India, cybercrime victims can register FIRs online with the help of ‘C-Mitra’.

Hyderabad Police’s ‘C-Mitra’ initiative is a virtual help desk that enables citizens to register cybercrime FIRs from the comfort of their homes, without the need to visit a police station.

Online assistance for converting complaints to FIRs

The initiative aims to tackle the growing menace of digital fraud by making cybercrime reporting simpler, faster and more citizen-friendly.

Through C-Mitra, victims receive end-to-end assistance in converting their complaints into legally compliant FIRs.

How C-Mitra works

1. Report: Citizens can call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or lodge a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in.

2. Connect: ‘Virtual Police Officers’ from the Hyderabad City Police contact the complainant.

3. Draft: Using Artificial Intelligence, a precise legal complaint is drafted and shared with the citizen.

4. Submit: The complainant prints, signs and sends the complaint by post or courier to the SHO, Cyber Crime Police Station, Basheerbagh. A drop-box facility is also available.

5. FIR: Upon receipt, the FIR is registered and confirmation details are sent to the complainant via SMS.

The initiative reflects the Hyderabad City Police’s commitment to innovation in policing and to enhancing public safety by leveraging technology to deliver citizen-centric services.

The launch of C-Mitra marks a significant step towards strengthening cyber safety and improving access to justice in cases of online fraud and cybercrime.
