Frustrated citizens took to social media, sharing numerous pictures and videos to highlight the chaos
By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 Jun 2024 5:12 AMHyderabad: The first monsoon showers literally brought Hyderabad to its knees on Wednesday.
Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds hit daily life and caused waterlogging in different parts of the city.
In the afternoon, scattered rain showers were reported in Kapra, Uppal, Nacharam, Mallapur, and Dammaiguda. By evening, the weather took a dramatic turn as the sky darkened, and heavy rainfall spread across most areas of the city.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), as of 6 pm, the highest recorded rainfall was 72.5 mm in Nampally, followed by 62.5 mm in Khairatabad. Other rainfall measurements included 50.8 mm in Bandlaguda and Asifnagar and 44.8 mm in Shaikpet. Areas such as Ramanthapur, Bachupally, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Hitec City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Banjara Hills, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Miyapur, Yusufguda, Jubilee Hills, and Nanakramguda also experienced substantial rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad reported a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 60 percent, marking the city's lowest temperature recorded on Wednesday compared to other districts.
More rain is expected overnight, with a mostly cloudy sky and scattered showers anticipated on Thursday. The IMD forecast for the next 48 hours predicts maximum and minimum temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Metro Services Disrupted on LB Nagar-Miyapur Route
Metro services on the LB Nagar-Miyapur route were severely disrupted on Wednesday evening due to a technical glitch caused by the rains. This in turn caused inconvenience for commuters. The technical issues led to the halting of three metro trains, resulting in overcrowded stations and carriages for a couple of hours.
L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd stated that the disruption was due to the tripping of an incoming TRANSCO feeder at the MGBS. The issue was resolved within seven minutes by connecting an alternative feeder at Miyapur, allowing train services to resume normal operations shortly after that.
Heavy Rains Cause Traffic Snarls and Social Media Outcry
The disruption in metro services was not the only issue exacerbated by heavy rains in the city. Waterlogging caused traffic snarls.
Frustrated citizens took to social media, sharing numerous pictures and videos to highlight the chaos and inconvenience caused by the disruptions.

The combination of technical issues and inclement weather underscored the challenges faced by the city's transportation infrastructure, as residents navigated both waterlogged roads and delayed metro services.
A yellow alert has been issued for Telangana until June 9, indicating light to moderate rains in various districts. The authorities advise residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
