Hyderabad flood relief: HYDRAA clears blocked drains in Ameerpet, Krishnanagar
Hyderabad: In the wake of heavy rains, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is stepping up flood prevention operations in vulnerable areas like Ameerpet and Krishnanagar.
Large-scale silt removal and drain clearance work are in full swing, coordinated with municipal departments, following directives from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

Commissioner inspects flood-prone areas
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted a field inspection on Saturday, reviewing drains that have historically caused waterlogging and sewage overflow.
He surveyed decades-old clogged drains and oversaw ongoing silt removal work. Residents were consulted, and the Commissioner discussed potential solutions, assuring a permanent resolution to recurring flood issues.
Massive silt clearance in Ameerpet
At Ameerpet, particularly near the Maitrinagar Metro Station crossroads, underground box drains had been completely blocked, causing water stagnation during heavy rains.
Debris from Jubilee Hills, Gayatri Hills, Krishnanagar, Yusufguda, Madhuranagar, and Srinivas Nagar West had accumulated, further worsening drainage.
HYDRAA teams are clearing large amounts of waste, including plastic and organic matter, from partially and fully blocked drains.
Commissioner Ranganath directed that all clogged drains along the main Ameerpet road be cleared immediately to prevent waterlogging.

Survey from Jubilee Hills to Ameerpet
The inspection covered flood and sewage canals from Jubilee Hills through Venkata Giri, Krishnanagar, Ellareddiguda, Yusufguda, Madhuranagar, Srinivasanagar, and Srinagar colonies.
In some locations, eight-meter-deep drains were blocked up to six feet, impeding water flow.
The Commissioner ordered the removal of encroachments and debris from canals in Krishnanagar and Pragatnagar. He emphasized strict monitoring to ensure floodwater does not accumulate during heavy rains.
Plans to expand lakes in Krishnakant Park to hold excess water were also announced.

Permanent solutions in Sight
Commissioner Ranganath assured residents that coordinated efforts with all departments, combined with community participation, would provide long-term flood relief.
He vowed that the measures would prevent recurring problems for the next century. Locals expressed appreciation for HYDRAA’s repeated inspections and proactive action.
