Hyderabad: Forget cricket, election results are drawing people to public places to watch, debate poll results

Hyderabad: Come election results, public and private spaces in Hyderabad are filled with people to watch the updates.

Community centers, parks, and even local cafes have become hubs of activity, where people gather to discuss, debate, and stay informed about the latest developments.

ā€œItā€™s a momentous day for our democracy, and we wanted to experience it as a community," said Rajesh Kumar, a local activist.

Families of Retired Defence Personnel Stay Glued to Screens

Retired defence and army personnel in Hyderabad are spending the day with their families, closely monitoring the election updates on television.

In many households, three generations are seated together, sharing insights and speculating on the outcomes.

ā€œWe've served the nation, and now we watch eagerly to see its future direction," said Colonel (Retd) Vijay Rao, sitting with his grandchildren.

Doctors Check Updates Amidst Their Duties

Even in the city's hospitals, the election buzz is palpable. Doctors and medical staff are seen glancing at their phones between patient consultations and during brief breaks.

Dr. Anjali Mehta, a surgeon at KIMS Hospital mentioned, "It's a busy day, but weā€™re all keeping an eye on the news. This election is crucial for us all."

Youth Ready to Celebrate

Hyderabad's youth, vibrant and politically active, are eagerly waiting for the results. Many have planned celebrations with fireworks and parties, hoping their preferred party clinches the victory.

ā€œWeā€™ve got everything ready. As soon as the results are out, and if our party wins, weā€™ll hit the streets in celebration," said Akash Verma, a student at Loyola college, Hyderabad.

Senior Citizens Turn to WhatsApp

For many senior citizens, the rapid updates on television are overwhelming. Instead, they are relying on WhatsApp messages from friends and family to stay informed.

ā€œThe news channels move too fast for me, but my son keeps me updated through WhatsApp," said Mrs. Lakshmi Reddy, a retired school teacher.

The Apathetic Yet Concerned

Interestingly, a segment of the society in Hyderabad did not cast their votes but remained deeply invested in the results. These individuals, for various reasons, opted out of voting but are keenly following the outcome.

ā€œI couldnā€™t vote this time due to personal reasons, but I still care deeply about who wins," admitted Priya Sharma, a young Hyderabad entrepreneur.

As Hyderabad waits for the Lok Sabha 2024 results, the city is united in its anticipation, demonstrating the collective spirit and diversity of its citizens.
