Hyderabad: Major infrastructure projects across Hyderabad, including flyovers, underpasses, and road widening works, are facing delays due to a severe shortage of funds for land acquisition, according to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner RV Karnan.

Speaking to the media, Karnan revealed that nearly Rs 760 crore in compensation is pending for property owners who have already surrendered land. Many of those affected have lost homes or small businesses and are unwilling to accept Transferable Development Rights (TDR) certificates instead of cash compensation, further stalling progress.

ā€œWe have requested the state government to release funds to speed up the land acquisition process,ā€ he said.

Stamp duty funds will be restored

Karnan also addressed concerns surrounding the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 crore in stamp duty funds by the state government from GHMC’s public deposit account. He assured that the move was a temporary adjustment for accounting purposes and that the funds would be returned soon.

Despite hurdles, projects will continue

While some delays are inevitable, the Commissioner emphasized that construction of new flyovers under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) would continue at full pace.

On the legal challenges facing proposed structures near KBR Park, Karnan said GHMC is actively defending the projects in court, clarifying that no construction is taking place within park boundaries or eco-sensitive zones. He expressed hope for a favorable verdict shortly.
