Hyderabad: A 23-year-old software professional from Hyderabad, currently employed in Germany, has been booked for rash and negligent driving after he rammed his BMW into a two-wheeler in Madhapur.

The incident occurred on June 17 but came to light only on Sunday after a video of the collision went viral on social media. The accused, Mohd Umar Khalid, reportedly lost control of the vehicle while driving at high speed near Niloufer CafƩ in Madhapur.

According to police, the vehicle swerved after hitting a rumble strip, leading to a collision with a motorcycle. Fortunately, the biker escaped without injuries.

Identified through CCTV evidence

Based on video clips and CCTV footage, police identified the BMW and traced the driver. Investigations confirmed that Khalid, a resident of the NMDC area in Hyderabad, was behind the wheel. He had returned home for vacation during Ramzan after moving to Germany for work post-engineering.

Damages paid on spot

Police said Khalid paid compensation to the biker immediately after the incident and left the scene in the same vehicle. The Raidurgam Police later seized the BMW and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act.

Notice issued, probe underway

ā€œA legal notice has been served to the accused and an investigation is underway,ā€ said Raidurgam SHO Ch Venkanna. The case highlights growing concerns around reckless driving in Hyderabad, especially involving high-end vehicles, he added.
