Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched post-rain cleaning operations in areas affected by flooding along the Musi river.
With floodwaters receding, municipal teams are working round the clock to restore normalcy in low-lying localities.
Clean-Up and Sanitation Efforts
According to GHMC officials, multiple teams have been deployed for desilting drains, removing silt from Musi-side habitations, and clearing waterlogged stretches. Pump sets have been pressed into service to drain stagnant water from vulnerable pockets.
To contain health risks, vector-control measures are also underway. The GHMC said in a post on X that “spraying and bleaching are being done” in affected neighbourhoods. The civic body further added that “commissioner RV Karnan is monitoring the flood-affected Musi areas and guiding teams to ensure citizens' safety and comfort.”
Puranapul Restored
Visuals shared by residents on X showed a cleaned-up Puranapul, where water levels had dropped considerably after Saturday’s flooding. The GHMC confirmed that its staff carried out cleaning works immediately after the waters receded.
Residents Return Home
The flooding on Saturday forced the relocation of approximately 1,500 residents from low-lying areas to relief camps. Food and essential supplies were distributed at the camps by municipal authorities. With conditions improving, many residents have begun returning to their homes.
Transport Services Resume
Bus services from the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), which had been suspended after floodwaters entered the premises on Saturday, resumed operations on Sunday. An official said the premises were cleared of water, enabling services to restart.
Civic Appeal
The GHMC has urged citizens to extend cooperation in ongoing clean-up efforts. In its message, the civic body requested residents “to cooperate in the clean-up drive and maintain cleanliness.”
