Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on Sunday foiled an attempt to dump construction debris into the Gandipet Reservoir.

A tractor owner was booked under criminal charges for illegally trying to dispose of building waste within the reservoir limits.

Patrol team intercepts tractor at FTL point

During routine patrolling near Himayat Nagar village, Water Board staff noticed a tractor bearing registration number TS07 UM 9831 attempting to unload construction debris into the reservoir at FTL (Full Tank Level) Point No. 425. The vehicle was immediately intercepted.

Accused identified; Case registered

Upon questioning, the tractor driver and owner, Kummari Gopal (40), admitted to attempting the illegal dumping. Based on the complaint, the Moinabad Police Station registered a criminal case against him, officials said.

Water Board’s warning to the public

The HMWSSB reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward any act that pollutes drinking water sources. The Board warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators without exception.

The Water Board urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any illegal dumping or polluting activities around reservoirs immediately to local authorities or by calling the Water Board’s 24×7 customer care number: 155313.

Protecting reservoirs is critical to safeguarding Hyderabad’s drinking water supply, the Board emphasized.
