Hyderabad: Three people were injured when two families clashed over a pet dog in Rahmatnagar.

The canine too suffered injuries in the altercation between the humans. Police have arrested five people in the case.

The incident unfolded under the jurisdiction of the Maduranagar police station, where tensions escalated between the families of Madhu and Dhanunjay. The disagreement arose when members of Madhu's family were on their way to cast their votes via postal ballot on the 8th of this month, accompanied by their husky dog.

According to Madhura Nagar police, a confrontation ensued when members of Dhanunjay's family claimed that the dog had attacked them. Subsequently, a case was registered based on complaints from both parties.

However, matters took an ugly turn when Dhanunjay, seething with anger, sought retribution for the perceived transgression. Seizing an opportunity, he and four accomplices launched a brutal assault on Madhu's brother, Srinath, who was out for an evening stroll with the pet dog. The assailants wielded iron rods indiscriminately, inflicting grave injuries not only on Srinath but also on his mother, Rajeshwari, and her daughter, Swapna, who rushed to their aid.

The vicious attack left both victims and the canine in critical condition, necessitating urgent medical attention. Maduranagar police registered a case under section 147, 148, 307 r/w 34 IPC and section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Five individuals involved in the attack were also arrested.
