Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has discovered traces of `disappeared' Edulakunta Lake in Khanamet of Serilingampally Mandal.

This is part of HYDRAAā€™s efforts to conserve the water bodies in Hyderabad.

The enforcement agency, with assistance from the Survey of India (SoI), has begun determining the borders of the Edulakunta Lake between Khanamet and Kukatpally after residents complained that the lake had disappeared.

HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the area and assessed the extent of the encroachments after the lake had previously been identified on high-quality maps from the National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC).

Along with the complainants, a meeting was held at the HYDRAA office with the land's claimants, including a real estate company.

The complainants presented evidence during the meeting to support their allegation that the excess channel between Thammidikunta and Edulakunta was closed as a result of the bridge construction near Hitech City and that the dried-up lake was encroached upon and filled with soil.

According to the complainants, the encroachment was overlooked because the lake crossed the boundaries of Khanamet and Kukatpally. The presence of the lake, its full tank level, and its water spread area were determined during a thorough inspection carried out by the SoI based on its toposheets.

Officials from HYDRAA, Irrigation, Revenue, GHMC, and HMDA also participated in the survey.
