Hyderabad: HYDRAA has reclaimed 2.30 acres of government land earmarked for a public park in Bachupally, Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
The land, valued at around Rs 300 crore, had been illegally encroached upon by private individuals.
Parkland reclaimed after field inspection
The reclaimed land falls under Survey Nos. 142, 143, and 144. It was originally allotted in 2016 by the then District Collector for the development of a public park.
Over the years, the site was developed with extensive greenery, an urban nursery, a borewell, a water sump, a watchman room, iron gates, and fencing.
However, in 2023, some private individuals allegedly destroyed saplings, dismantled the nursery, and erected a compound wall overnight, claiming ownership of the land.
Action taken on public complaint
Following complaints received through Prajavani, HYDRAA officials conducted a detailed field inspection along with the concerned departments. The land was conclusively identified as government-owned parkland.
On the directions of HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, encroachments were removed on Tuesday. Fresh fencing was installed, and HYDRAA boards declaring the land as government property were erected.
Additional government land also secured
In the same survey numbers, an additional 30 guntas of government land allotted for the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) office had also been encroached upon. HYDRAA cleared these encroachments as well and fenced the site, installing official boards to prevent future misuse.
Residents applaud HYDRAA’s action
Local residents of Bachupally welcomed the action and expressed gratitude to HYDRAA for safeguarding the park and government land.
