Hyderabad: Stepping up its anti-encroachment drive, HYDRAA removed unauthorized constructions at Neknampur Chinna Cheruvu in Rangareddy district.
The action targeted illegal constructions of Pooja Crafted Homes Pvt. Ltd. within the lake’s protected zones. Approximately two and -half acres of filled land and unauthorized roads within the lake area were cleared by HYDRAA.
Complaint by GHMC official sparks action
On August 11, a formal complaint was filed by B. Sreenivasa Reddy, Assistant Executive Engineer, North Tank Division, GHMC – Lakes, Irrigation & CAD Department, with Narsingi Police.
In his complaint, Reddy said that during his inspection on August 9, he identified unauthorized construction of temporary labor sheds by Pooja Crafted Homes inside the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of the lake.
These illegal activities were altering the lake’s natural topography and infringing on protected water body areas, prompting a call for immediate legal action.
Encroachments dismantled, lake restoration underway
Responding promptly to the complaint, the enforcement teams from HYDRAA demolished the illegal sheds and structures constructed by the company spread over two and- half acres.
Heavy machinery, including tippers and JCBs, was deployed to remove the earth that had been dumped to reclaim part of the lake, restoring its original contours and safeguarding its ecosystem.
Legal proceedings initiated against Pooja Crafted Homes
Following complaints filed by GHMC and irrigation officials at Narsingi Police Station, a case (Cr. No. 1560/2025) under Section 32(b) BNS was registered against the construction firm. The investigation is currently assigned to Sub-Inspector M. Srisailam. GHMC is pursuing strict action to deter future violations.
Protecting Water Bodies: A Critical Priority
Neknampur Chinna Cheruvu spans roughly 9 acres, with over two and a half acres previously encroached upon. The HYDRAA’s decisive intervention underscores its commitment to preserving water bodies essential for groundwater recharge, flood mitigation, and ecological balance in the Hyderabad region, residents said.
