Hyderabad: IMD forecasts more rain in city on Saturday

Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in different parts of Telangana till the end of September.

The department noted that such weather conditions are likely to be prevalent till September 25, with varying intensity across districts.

Forecast for Saturday

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely in Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Nagarkurnool districts on Saturday, while heavy thunderstorms are expected in several other parts of Telangana.

Hyderabad is expected to receive rainfall in the early hours, following a brief spell of dry weather on Friday.

“The city experienced clear skies on Friday, but moist air circulation continues over Telangana. This will bring back thunderstorms by Saturday morning, with chances of localized heavy rainfall,” meteorologist K. S. Sridhar told NewsMeter.

Recent Weather in Hyderabad

The city witnessed two days of intense rain earlier in the week, followed by a respite on Friday when sunshine returned. However, independent weather trackers and the IMD have both cautioned that this break is temporary.

Sridhar noted, “The combination of high humidity and an active monsoon trough will sustain thunderstorm activity over Hyderabad and adjoining districts. Residents should be prepared for sudden downpours, particularly in the evenings.”

Outlook for the Coming Week

IMD officials stated that intermittent thunderstorms will continue till the end of September, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in the northern and western districts of Telangana. Hyderabad is expected to see scattered to heavy evening showers on most days until September 25, while daytime conditions may remain humid and warm.

Sridhar added, “The active monsoon phase is likely to weaken gradually after September 25, but isolated rains may still occur in October. Until then, the city and state will continue to see a mix of sunshine during the day and thunderstorms towards evening or night.”

Advisory to Citizens

Authorities have advised residents to plan travel with caution, as sudden rains may lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas of Hyderabad. Farmers in the state have been asked to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from excess moisture.
