Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has fined Life Slimming and Cosmetic Clinic Rs 80,000 for botched skin treatment.

The Commission directed the clinic to refund Rs 60,000 along with Rs 10,000 as compensation and Rs 10,000 litigation cost to a customer within 45 days. It warned that failure to comply would attract 12% annual interest on the total amount.

Complaint over ineffective treatment

According to the complaint, Nagalla Muralidhar, a resident of Moosapet, approached the Life Slimming Clinic at Hitech City in December 2023 seeking treatment for a facial skin-related issue.

The clinic charged him Rs 53,100 for the treatment package. However, the complainant stated that the treatment did not yield the promised results.

Additional payment for ‘Complementary’ treatment

Subsequently, the clinic allegedly informed him that a complementary treatment was available and demanded an additional Rs 60,000. Trusting their assurance, Muralidhar paid the amount. Despite this, he did not experience any improvement.

When he sought a refund, the clinic reportedly failed to respond, prompting him to approach the Consumer Commission.

Commission finds Deficiency in Service

After examining the case background, documentary evidence, and audio recordings submitted by the complainant, the Commission observed that the opposite party had acted in violation of consumer protection norms.

Holding the clinic responsible for deficiency in service, the Commission ordered a refund of Rs 60,000, Rs 10,000 as compensation for mental agony, and Rs 10,000 towards case expenses.

It further cautioned that if the amount is not paid within 45 days, the centre would be liable to pay 12% interest per annum until realization.
