Lorry runs over three traffic cops at Miyapur Metro Station; 1 dead
Hyderabad: A lorry ran over three traffic constables on duty at Miyapur Metro Station late Monday night.
One home guard died, while two others sustained serious injuries.
Traffic home guard Simhachalam, Constables Rajavardhan, and Vijender from the Miyapur Traffic Police Station were on duty near pillar number 600 of the metro station around 11 p.m. They were managing the no-entry zone when a speeding lorry, which had been unloading rice bags in Bharat Nagar, came towards Miyapur from Kukatpally road and crashed into a traffic booth. The booth collapsed onto the officers on duty.
Home Guard Simhachalam suffered a severe head injury, Rajavardhan sustained fractures to his right arm and shoulder, while Vijender suffered minor injuries. All three were rushed to a private hospital in Madinaguda. Miyapur Traffic police stated that Simhachalam succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The other two are still undergoing treatment.
The lorry driver has been identified as Srinivas from Sadashivapet. Officials stated that the accident occurred due to his negligence and excessive speed. They confirmed that the deceased, Simhachalam, hailed from Aamdalavalasa in Srikakulam district. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway
