Hyderabad: Police have registered a case against the management of LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) Hospital and Dr. Brijesh Takkar after a man allegedly lost his eyesight.

The complaint was filed by Nagendra who alleged that due to medical negligence, his father Mahankali Raghava Chari lost his vision.

According to Banjara Hills Police, Mahankali Raghava Chari lost vision in his left eye thirty years ago. Recently, he required a Silicone Oil Removal (SOR) procedure for his right eye. Nagendra admitted his father to LV Prasad Eye Hospital on June 30, where the surgery was performed. However, he claimed that crucial steps were overlooked in pre and post-operative care.

Nagendra alleged that neither the patient nor his attendant received any counseling before the surgery, and the potential risks of vision loss were not discussed. Furthermore, despite the patient's complaints of pain and swelling in the following days, the hospital advised discharge and failed to give information about potential vision loss to the family.

The situation worsened when Raghava Chari experienced severe pain, prompting them to approach Dr. Brijesh Takkar once again. It was then that doctors discovered an infection in his eye, and they concluded that another surgery was necessary. Raghava Chari was readmitted to the hospital on July 3, and during an endoscopy, it was revealed that he had lost his vision completely. On July 9, The doctors informed the family that there was no possibility of regaining his vision.

Nagendra held Dr. Brijesh Takkar and the hospital management responsible for his father's loss of vision. Alleging negligence, he filed a complaint at Banjara Hills Police Station. Police have registered a case under Section 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and an investigation is currently underway.
