Hyderabad: In a tragic mishap, a 31-year-old man from Hyderabad, who was working as a delivery agent in the USA, drowned after he allegedly accidentally fell into a swimming pool while delivering a parcel at a house.

According to the police reports, Mohammed Mustafa Shareef was working as a food delivery agent in Florida at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Tahera Banu and two children: two-year-old Shezad and five-month-old Hamza. The deceased was on a dependent visa and had travelled to the USA nine months ago.

His family in India has requested minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar to ask the Indian Embassy in the US and the Consulate General of India (CGI) Atlanta to reach out to the family for help. They are also requesting the authorities concerned for the issuance of emergency visas to the deceased’s parents and in-laws to attend his final rites.

When contacted, the victim’s elder brother Md. Nawaz Shareef said, “At the moment, we just want emergency visas for my parents so that they can go and perform his final rites at the earliest. We are trying to reach out to MP Asaduddin Owaisi ji and former corporator Amjed Ullah Khan ji for help. We are also trying to get in touch with the Hyderabadi NRI associations in the US to expedite the visa process.”

Narrating details about the mishap that took place on Sunday night, Nawaz said, “My brother went to a house to deliver food. As per his company norms in the US, he has to take a photograph of the place where he has delivered the food and upload it on the company’s site. The place was not lit, somewhat dark. While trying to take the photo, he slipped and fell in the swimming pool, which was around 10 to 12 feet deep. My brother did not know how to swim and drowned. There was no help around to rescue him. After around one hour, the owner of the house found him in the water and called the police. Immediately, police came and found his address and phone number in his identity card and informed his wife.”

“His wife, two children and my youngest brother Omer live in the US too. But we do not know our next course of action, regarding whether they will come back to India or continue to stay there. We just know that my parents need to leave for the US urgently,” said Nawaz.

Meanwhile, Amjed Ullah Khan, spokesperson of Majlis Bachao Tehreek, has tweeted about the tragic incident, posted photographs and tagged @USAndIndia and @USAndHyderabad @DrSJsishankar @IndianEmbassyIS and CGI_Atlanta for helping the family of the deceased.
