Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out at a warehouse in Chikkadapally in the wee hours of Thursday. No casualties have been reported. However, people residing in nearby houses are being evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Police said the fire started at 4.30 am. Police said there are tents and decoration materials stored inside the warehouse. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit. About ten fire tenders have rushed to the spot to douse.

According to the police, as the decoration materials and wooden furniture are stored inside the warehouse, it is taking longer time to douse the flames. Preliminary information found that the warehouse has been running without fire safety regulations., After dousing the flames, officials are planning to demolish the building.


Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Cinematography Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited the spot. Speaking to the media, he advised the owners of the warehouse and commercial buildings to follow fire safety measures to avoid such accidents. He cautioned the owners of the business establishments that the government will cancel their licenses and demolish the buildings if they fail to follow safety rules.

He said that a a special committee has been formed to identify the old warehouses, and buildings running without NOC.

Central zone DCP M Venkateshwarlu said, "An investigation is going on to know cause of the fire. Special surveillance on commercial warehouses is going on. A case has also been registered against the warehouse owners".
