Hyderabad: Hyderabad and several eastern districts of Telangana are likely to receive rain over the next three days due to a developing cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, according to early forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and independent weather analysts.
Cyclonic Circulation and Alerts
The IMD has issued a cyclone alert for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where the system is currently building strength.
Officials said thunderstorms with gusty winds between 40–50 kmph, accompanied by lightning, are likely at isolated locations on November 24 and 25.
Sea conditions around the islands will remain rough. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the Andaman Sea till November 23, and a Local Cautionary Signal–3 has been hoisted at the Port Blair Port.
Meteorologist K. S. Sridhar speaking to Newsmeter said, “The circulation is expected to consolidate over the next 48 hours. Its eventual direction and intensity will determine whether the system develops into a depression or a stronger cyclone.”
Impact on Telangana and Hyderabad
While the cyclone is still forming, preliminary models indicate that rainfall is likely in Hyderabad, eastern Telangana, and adjoining regions. The system is drawing moisture inland and may trigger light to moderate showers.
Independent forecaster Telangana Weatherman noted that the pattern suggests no significant cold wave for now.
“As of today, most models show moderate rain over central and northern Andhra Pradesh and eastern Telangana. Hyderabad is also in the zone for intermittent showers. A cold wave is unlikely unless the system weakens or delays unusually.” added Sridhar.
Possibility of a Shift in Weather Pattern
Meteorologists emphasise that while a cold wave is improbable at this stage, the situation could change depending on how quickly the system evolves.
Sridhar explained, “If the system takes longer to organise and moves away from the coast, the resulting wind pattern may bring dry northerlies, which can lower temperatures sharply. It’s a less likely scenario but not impossible.”
This aligns with independent forecasts suggesting a remote possibility of a “monstrous” cyclone if the circulation strengthens more than expected. Such an outcome could clear the skies over Telangana, leading to cooler nights and dry weather next week.
What Residents Can Expect
For the next three days, Hyderabad may experience:
• Light to moderate rainfall
• Cloudy skies
• Occasional thunderstorms in some pockets
• No immediate cold wave conditions
Minimum temperatures may drop slightly during rainy periods but are not expected to fall into cold-wave territory unless the system alters its trajectory.
Safety Advice
Authorities advise residents to:
• Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain spells
• Stay updated with official IMD bulletins
• Watch for waterlogging in low-lying areas
• Ensure vehicles are parked safely during thunderstorms
