A 32-year-old MBA grad ended his life after he an online loan app threatened to send his morphed nude pictures to his friends and relatives in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
He has been identified as Rajesh. A native of Krishna district, he died by suicide after the online loan app company in Hyderabad threatened to circulate his morphed nudes.
It is the third incident in a week.
A pal of gloom descended on Velagaleru in Krishna district after the news of his death reached the village. Rajesh's parents were expecting to celebrate Dasara along with their son's family including the three-year-old granddaughter. Rajesh allegedly ended his life a day before the Dasara festival.
Police said that Rajesh was working in a private company in Hyderabad. He borrowed Rs 75,000 from an online loan app `XP Cash' for his daily needs. However, he repaid the entire amount including the interest, but the loan app representatives started to harass him asking him to shell out more money. They allegedly morphed his images and threatened to send them to his friends and family members.
In a suicide note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Rajesh said the loan app representatives harassed him by threatening to send his nude photos to his family and friends.
He requested the state and the union governments to take stringent action against online loan apps, which are harassing and blackmailing people with nude photos. He said no one else should suffer like him in the future and the respective governments should bring the culprits, who were responsible for the deaths of innocent people, to book.
This is the third incident of suicide because of loan apps within a week. Two similar incidents were reported at Dowlaiswaram near Rajahmundry recently in Andhra Pradesh.
Police in Kadapa and Krishna districts arrested 13 persons in connection with two cases of loan app harassment.
