New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged the Union Government to expedite approval for the ambitious Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II.

The Rs 24,269 crore infrastructure project is aimed at transforming public transport in the state capital.

During a high-level meeting with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s readiness to execute the project as a joint venture with the Centre, and stressed the urgency of granting the necessary departmental clearances.

DPR submitted, state awaits final green light

Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that the Detailed Project Report (DPR), revised in line with Central ministry suggestions, has already been submitted.

The Telangana government has proposed the project to bridge critical gaps in the city's current metro coverage and meet the surging transportation demands of the expanding urban population.

Corridors proposed under Metro Phase-II (Total: 76.4 km)

1. Nagole – Shamshabad (RGIA Airport) – 36.8 km

A key corridor enabling direct metro connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, making air travel more accessible and efficient for lakhs of commuters.

2. Raidurg – Kokapet Neopolis – 11.6 km

This Blue Line extension will link the metro network to Hyderabad's Financial District, supporting the city’s booming IT and business ecosystem.

3. MGBS – Chandrayangutta – 7.5 km

Connecting Hyderabad’s Old City, this corridor addresses long-standing demands to integrate the heritage zone with modern urban transit.

4. Miyapur – Patancheru – 13.4 km

Red Line extension to northwestern industrial hubs, designed to support worker transit and industrial logistics.

5. L.B. Nagar – Hayathnagar – 7.1 km

This Green Line extension will serve the eastern suburban corridor, which is witnessing rapid residential growth.

Key features of Hyderabad Metro Phase-II

Airport Connectivity:

The Nagole–Shamshabad corridor is a flagship element, connecting the city to the airport via a high-frequency, reliable metro route.

Old City Integration:

The MGBS–Chandrayangutta line finally brings metro access to Hyderabad’s densely populated Old City, resolving a long-pending public demand.

Industrial Support:

The Miyapur–Patancheru corridor will provide seamless access to Hyderabad’s northwest industrial belt, aiding economic productivity.

Timeline for Completion:

The project is expected to be completed in four years, with work on the Old City section scheduled to begin first, according to state officials.

Senior leadership pushes for swift approvals

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, MPs Mallu Ravi and K. Raghuveer Reddy, State Special Representative A.P. Jitender Reddy, Hyderabad Metro MD N.V.S. Reddy, and Dr. Gaurav Uppal, Coordinating Secretary for Centrally Sponsored Projects.

Their collective representation in Delhi reflects the state’s unified commitment to advancing the next phase of Hyderabad’s metro rail journey, one that promises to enhance mobility, sustainability, and inclusivity in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
