Hyderabad: Migrant worker kills her 2-month-old infant at Bowrampet construction site

Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a two-month-old infant was allegedly murdered by his mother at a construction site in Bowrampet under the limits of Dundigal Police Station on Tuesday.

The incident came to light after locals alerted the police following a dispute between the couple.

Police rushed to the spot and shifted the infant’s body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Infant allegedly suffocated and burnt

According to preliminary investigation, the accused mother allegedly stuffed pieces of cloth into the baby’s mouth to stop him from crying and tied his hands and legs with a rope.

After the child died, she is suspected of having placed the body in a makeshift firewood stove at the construction site in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The gruesome act reportedly took place near the Outer Ring Road at Bowrampet, where the couple was working as daily wage labourers at an apartment construction project.

The parents, identified as Rajender and Mamata, are migrant workers believed to be natives of Bihar. They had been residing at the construction site premises along with their infant son.

Police said the baby had been crying continuously since the previous night, which allegedly triggered the fatal assault. However, the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.

Dispute between couple exposed crime

Police said the father broke down after discovering the child’s death and confronted his wife, leading to a heated argument. Local residents, noticing the altercation, informed them, bringing the incident to light.

ACP Shankar Reddy visited the scene and supervised the initial inquiry. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including domestic issues and psychological factors.

Police are also verifying reports that the construction management may have attempted to keep the matter under wraps before authorities were informed. Officials clarified that further details would emerge after a thorough investigation.

The brutal killing of the infant has left local residents in shock, raising serious concerns over the circumstances that led to such a horrific act.
