Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has decided to double water sample testing during the monsoon season to prevent waterborne diseases.
With the possibility of increased turbidity due to heavy rains, the focus is on ensuring safe and quality drinking water for the city.
MD reviews Monsoon Preparedness
HMWSSB managing director K Ashok Reddy met senior officials from the Quality Control and Transmission departments to review drinking water projects sourced from Krishna, Godavari, and Manjeera rivers. He gave detailed instructions to strengthen monitoring and preventive measures.

Precautionary measures for vulnerable areas
The meeting also addressed steps to prevent contaminated water from entering slum colonies. Officials were instructed to distribute chlorine tablets and arrange for bleaching powder where necessary to curb the spread of seasonal diseases.
Enhanced monitoring and testing protocols
Ashok Reddy directed the Quality Control department to increase the frequency and number of water samples collected and tested before distribution. He emphasized that rigorous testing is crucial to ensure safe water reaches all residents during the monsoon.
Pump house maintenance and readiness
The MD also instructed meticulous record-keeping at pump houses, including logs of water pumped, repairs, and maintenance activities. Proposals for installing standby motors at every pump house were also discussed to ensure an uninterrupted water supply.
The review meeting was attended by Technical Director Sudarshan, Transmission CGM Brijesh, GMs, DGMs, and other senior officials, all urged to coordinate closely to maintain high-quality drinking water and service continuity during the monsoon season.
