Hyderabad MP Race: AIMIM, Congress in friendly rivalry; Lata, Owaisi clash is real contest
Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat to see Asaduddin Owaisi and Madhavi Lata engage in a fierce contest
By Kaniza Garari Published on 23 April 2024 2:19 PM GMTHyderabad: Congress leader Sameer Waliullah filed his nomination papers from the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency on Tuesday afternoon. However, the official clearance from the All India Congress Committee has not come yet.
Waliullah, chairman of Hyderabad Congress Committee, minority department of Telangana Congress, is being fielded against the sitting Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
Owaisi has retained the seat for the last four terms.
Friendly fight between Congress and AIMIM
The fight between Congress and AIMIM is expected to be friendly, according to sources in the Congress party. The undercurrent that existed between AIMIM and the Congress party has withered after the latter came back to power in the state. For this reason, sources say that the Congress candidate is only for namesake.
Real fight between BJP and AIMIM
The real contest in the Hyderabad Parliamentary constituency is between BJP candidate Madhavi Lata Kompella and Asaduddin Owaisi. Madhavi Lata has already accelerated her tempo in the elections with the Ram Navami ‘imaginary arrow’ incident and the Y Security detail provided to her by the Union government.
Daily, social media is flooded with videos of her on the campaign trail which are mostly controversial.
In her speeches and conversations, Madhavi Lata refers to ‘Pasmanda Muslims’, and issues of ‘triple talaq’ and highlights the plight of poor Muslims in Hyderabad.
Asaduddin Owaisi and Sameer Waliullah have completed their nomination process. Madhavi Lata will file her nomination on Wednesday amid a huge rally the BJP is planning for her from Bhagyalakshmi Temple at Charminar to Lakdikapul.
Anurag Thakur, minister for Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, will be the chief guest, accompanying her through the nomination process.
