Hyderabad: Old City residents angry over clashes between AIMIM's Hussain and Congress' Feroze Khan

Hyderabad: Anger has swept across Old City after clashes broke out between AIMIM Nampally MLA Majid Hussain and Congress leader Feroze Khan.

Videos of the clashes went viral on Twitter and WhatsApp evoking angry reactions from the residents.

Why the scuffle?

Road works being carried out in Taj Nagar, Vijaynagar in Nampally led to the altercation. In the video, it can be seen that AIMIM Majid Hussain along with his supporters clashed with Feroze Khan and his workers. Hussain’s team is seen attacking Feroze Khan’s team. Police are trying to separate them. However, a lathi of policeman was snatched to beat the supporters of Feroze Khan.

These videos were widely shared across all WhatsApp groups in Hyderabad.

What does Feroze Khan say?

“I went there as people of the area complained that the road was being laid without putting the sewage line. A day ago, the family of a senior citizen Hamid Khan who lives in Rashid Residence contacted me as he slipped and got 11 stitches. Residents said the works were being done without the sewage line. I inquired with the contractor on how the road was being laid without the sewage line being put in the area,” Feroze Khan told NewsMeter.

“My presence in Nampally affects the AIMIM and they do not want me to work over there. That is the reason, they have come and launched an attack.”

What did MLA Majid Hussain say?

AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain held a press conference and accused Feroze Khan of bringing rowdy sheeters to the Nampally area which led to the clashes. The road was being laid for the people and there was undue interference by the Congress workers and leader. Hussain also alleged that the Congress workers and leaders were extorting money from the people and the contractor. “My people have also been injured. They have attacked us also. Why is the media not showing that video?” he asked.

People of Old City have also appealed to Hyderabad police commissioner C V Anand to look into the issue.

A resident on condition of anonymity says, “We want the sewage works to be carried out. Who should we approach if the sitting MLA does not listen to us? Feroze Khan and his team came and inspected the place. They also met the injured senior citizen.”

Another resident says, “This behavior of AIMIM creates fear among the people. This will send a message to many of them not to indulge with Congress workers in the Old City area. They do not want any other party to work in this area.”

The political heat can be felt at Nampally as there is an attempt by both Congress and AIMIM to continue with their hold on the area.
