Hyderabad: Osmania University to become closed campus; KTR approves Adikmet link road

Hyderabad: Osmania University is set to become a closed campus after Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K. T. Rama Rao gave the go-ahead for the Adikmet link road.

The decision to make Osmania University a closed campus has been welcomed by the university administration, which has long been pushing for the change. The move is expected to improve security on the campus and reduce traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.

Background

Osmania University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in India. It was founded in 1917 by the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. The university has a sprawling campus of over 2,000 acres in the heart of Hyderabad.

In recent years, the university campus has become increasingly congested with traffic. This has posed a security threat to students and staff and has also made it difficult for students to get around the campus.

The Link Road

The link road, which will cost Rs 16.5 crore, will connect the Vidyanagar-Amberpet side with Adikmet and Tarnaka. Once the road is built, vehicular traffic will no longer be allowed on the main road through the university campus.

The link road is expected to be completed within a year. Once it is built, Osmania University will become the second university in Hyderabad to have a closed campus, after the University of Hyderabad. Currently, the main road within the Osmania University campus allows traffic from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Impact

This is a major development for Osmania University and the surrounding areas. The link road will help to improve security and reduce traffic congestion, making the university a safer and more accessible place for students, staff, and visitors.
