Hyderabad: Overnight showers bring relief from scorching heat; IMD forecasts more rains, gusty winds

Heavy rainfall alert for coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh over next two days

Hyderabad: A sudden spell of overnight thunderstorms and unseasonal rain brought relief from rising temperatures in Hyderabad.

Several parts of the city experienced light to moderate showers.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), HCU Serilingampally recorded the highest rainfall within the city at 12.5 mm during the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning.

Other parts of Hyderabad and its surrounding districts, including Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, and Sangareddy, received steady rainfall ranging between 8 mm and 12 mm.

While rainfall in Hyderabad remained moderate, several districts across Telangana recorded heavy downpours. As per TSDPS data, Dahegaon in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 75.8 mm.

Other high rainfall areas include Watpally (65.3 mm) in Sangareddy, Kulkacherla (56.8 mm) in Vikarabad, Bela (53.8 mm) in Adilabad, and Bejjur (52.8 mm) in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.

Forecast for the next 48 hours

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) over the next 48 hours.

For Wednesday, the city is expected to see cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers, particularly towards the afternoon and evening. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34°C, while the minimum may drop to 19°C.

Similar conditions are expected on Thursday, with temperatures ranging between 21°C and 35°C.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning and sudden gusty winds.
