Hyderabad: Patient's fast response to heart attack symptoms saves his life
The patient, identified as Madhu, aged 48, experienced symptoms indicative of a heart attack and sought immediate medical attention, ultimately saving his own life
By Newsmeter Network Published on 1 March 2024 4:22 PM ISTHyderabad: In a remarkable turn of events, a patientās intuition and prompt action led to the discovery and treatment of a severe heart condition at Amor Hospital. The patient, identified as Madhu, aged 48, experienced symptoms indicative of a heart attack and sought immediate medical attention, ultimately saving his own life.
Despite lacking a history of diabetes or hypertension, Madhu presented with elevated blood pressure readings upon arrival at the hospital. Subsequent tests revealed a significant 99 per cent blockage in his heart vessel, necessitating urgent intervention.
Dr Imran Ul Haq, consultant cardiologist at Amor Hospital, explained the sequence of events leading to Madhuās diagnosis and treatment. Despite initial reluctance, Madhu agreed to undergo a coronary angiogram after experiencing another episode of severe discomfort and sweating at the hospital. The procedure confirmed the critical blockage, prompting the immediate placement of a stent to restore proper blood flow.
The patient Madhu said, āI work as a machine operator in a factory. I went to duty at 6 am as usual and at around 10:30 am, I felt pain in my left hand. After some rest, it subsided. I felt the same pain after 10 minutes and was sweating too. Then, I went to Amor Hospital within 10 minutes with the help of a colleague. They placed a stent after some tests. I am happy that my life is saved.ā
Understanding heart attack and seeking timely help
Pain in the left hand, severe sweating, and discomfort in the heart are classic symptoms of a heart attack.
The importance of recognising and responding to heart attack symptoms promptly cannot be overstated, as highlighted by Dr Imran. While many individuals may seek an ECG and leave if results appear normal, thorough observation and further tests are crucial in identifying underlying cardiac issues.
Dr Imran stressed the significance of seeking medical attention promptly, particularly for individuals over 40 years of age, as delayed intervention can lead to severe complications and potential fatalities.
Despite initially underestimating the severity of his symptoms, Madhuās decision to seek immediate medical help proved instrumental in his recovery.
Madhuās case serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of listening to one's body and taking prompt action in the face of potential health emergencies. Through proactive measures and access to quality medical care, individuals like Madhu can overcome life-threatening situations and continue to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
The data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) showed that there has been an alarming 12.5 per cent increase in heart attack cases in 2022. The NCRBās latest data on āAccidental Deaths and Suicides in Indiaā showed that 32,457 individuals succumbed to heart attacks in 2022, an increase from the 28,413 deaths in the previous year.
