Hyderabad: Police bust illegal samosa unit in Jiyaguda; 1 held, stocks worth ₹5L seized

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Task Force busted an illegal samosa-making unit operating under highly unhygienic conditions at Jiyaguda on Friday evening.
Authorities seized food items and raw materials worth approximately ₹5 lakh. A 73-year-old man, who was running the unit, was also arrested.
Raid conducted on credible information
Acting on specific inputs, the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), along with Task Force personnel and Kulsumpura police, conducted a coordinated raid around 6 pm at a premises located opposite SBA Garden in Jiyaguda.

Spoiled ingredients, reused oil detected
During the inspection, the accused, identified as Abdul Rasheed (73), was found using substandard and unsafe ingredients. Authorities discovered stale boiled eggs and repeatedly used cooking oil being used in the preparation of food, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Large quantity of food items seized
Police seized a significant quantity of prepared and raw food materials, including:
500 spoiled boiled eggs
5 kg of reused cooking oil
350 egg samosas, 600 sweet corn samosas, and 1,000 onion samosas
50 kg maida, salt bags, 2,000 samosa patties, and unhygienic sweet corn
Machinery such as a fryer, onion-cutting machine, and cooking utensils were also confiscated.
Accused apprehended, case under investigation
The accused has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered at Kulsumpura Police Station. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of distribution and potential public health impact.
Joint operation by Task Force and Food Safety Officials
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Task Force Inspector Venkatesh, with active participation from the H-FAST team, local police, and the Food Safety Officer.

Hyderabad City Police reiterated their commitment to curbing food adulteration and illegal manufacturing. Citizens have been urged to report suspicious food activities through official channels to safeguard public health.
