Hyderabad: City police commissioner Anjani Kumar has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) on Monday.

Besides, Anjani Kumar, two other IPS officers, Govind Singh and Ravi Gupta, have also been promoted to DGP rank.

Govind Singh is posted as DGP, CID, while Ravi Gupta is serving as Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department.

All the three have been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police. However, they will continue to discharge responsibilities at their current posts.

"Consequent on empanelment, the officers of 1990 batch are hereby promoted to the rank of Director General of Police in the Above Super Time Scale (ii), Level 16 in the Pay Matrix of IPS and retained in the same posts in the rank of Director General of Police," reads a government order.

A 1990 batch IPS officer, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar was empanelled on August 25. Three others including 1989 batch IPS officer Umesh Sharraff, Govind Singh, and Ravi Gupta, both 1990 batch IPS officers, were also empanelled.

Anjani Kumar assumed charge as the city police commissioner in March 2018. Prior to this, he served as Additional DGP (Law and Order) for two years. He also served as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Hyderabad City. He was also Inspector General of Police, Warangal Range, and DIG of Nizamabad Range.

Anjani Kumar also served as chief of Greyhounds, an elite anti-Maoist unit. He was also the chief of the Counter Intelligence Cell.
