Hyderabad: Aiming for strengthening women’s safety and protecting personal privacy, the Hyderabad Police have introduced a new initiative called ‘She Nethra Teams’ to detect and eliminate hidden cameras in public and private spaces across the city.

Special teams to inspect hotels to hospitals

The police have constituted seven dedicated She Nethra teams, deploying one team in each zone under the Hyderabad Commissionerate.

These teams will conduct inspections in hotels, shopping malls, hostels, educational institutions, hospitals, and commercial establishments to prevent illegal surveillance activities.

All team members have undergone two-phase specialised training, focusing on the use of advanced camera detection devices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for inspections.

Advanced detection devices distributed

At a formal event held at the old Commissionerate office in Basheerbagh on Friday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, handed over state-of-the-art camera detector equipment to the teams.

Strict action against offenders

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner emphasised that strict action will be taken against those installing hidden cameras in trial rooms, hospitals, hotels and hostels, violating women’s privacy.

Surprise inspections across the city

The police will conduct intensive surprise checks citywide, leveraging technology to identify and dismantle illegal surveillance setups. The initiative aims to create a safer environment for women by proactively tackling privacy breaches.

Strict liability for managements

The Commissioner made it clear that the management of all establishments is fully responsible for ensuring that no hidden cameras are installed in private spaces within their premises.

He warned that:

- Severe criminal cases will be registered against violators

- Even negligence will invite strict legal action

- Repeat offenders and responsible staff may be blacklisted

Mandatory ‘customer safety in-charge’

All establishments have been directed to appoint a ‘Customer Safety In-Charge’, who will act as a nodal point for coordination with She Teams.

These designated officials will:

- Receive training under police supervision

- Ensure procurement of camera detectors

- Conduct regular internal inspections to certify safety

Public cooperation crucial

Calling women’s safety a collective responsibility, the police urged citizens to remain vigilant. People are encouraged to report any suspicious objects or devices immediately via:

Dial 100 / 112, or She Teams helpline: 9490616555
