Hyderabad: The SR Nagar police in Hyderabad cracked a major jewellery theft case worth approximately Rs. 7 crores. During a press meet organised at the DCP office, DCP west zone Joel Davis revealed the details of the operation.

On 17 February, the SR Nagar police received a complaint from Akshay Kumar, a sales executive at Radhika Diamonds in Gachibowli. Mr. Kumar said he and his driver Srinivas had gone to deliver diamond earrings to a customer in Madhura Nagar. He left the gold ornaments in the car with Srinivas. When he returned to the car after delivering the earrings, he discovered that Srinivas had fled with the car and the gold ornaments.

The police formed six special teams and analysed footage from approximately 150 CCTV cameras in various locations in Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates. After receiving credible information, on 25 February, the police arrested Srinivas at Madhura Nagar.

During the interrogation, he confessed that he had been working as a driver for Radhika Diamonds and decided to steal the ornaments from the company. On 17 February, he took the opportunity to steal the ornaments and left the car in Bala Nagar, eventually traveling to Narsampet of Warangal district and Kovvur of West Godavari district before returning to Hyderabad to dispose of the stolen property.

The police recovered approximately 4,206.968 grams of gold worth around Rs. 7 crores, including ear tops and pendants, earrings (jhumkas), diamond necklaces (harams), and gold waist belts (waddanam). Srinivas was taken into custody and will be produced before the court for judicial remand.
