Hyderabad: Post monsoon, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a drive to restore the damaged infrastructure.

Under the drive, civic teams have already repaired 14,112 potholes out of the 16,541 identified across Hyderabad. The initiative, launched soon after the rains, aims to restore road conditions that had deteriorated due to heavy monsoon damage.

GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has set an ambitious target to fill all identified potholes within a week, personally reviewing the progress of work daily.

Massive Citywide Operation

Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar is leading the operation with round-the-clock supervision, while zonal engineers are monitoring progress at the field level.

Focus on Road Safety and Smooth Commute

Apart from filling potholes, GHMC crews are simultaneously working on catch-pit cleaning and repairs, manhole cover replacements, patch works, and median restorations.

Officials said these complementary works are being undertaken to enhance overall road safety and reduce the risk of accidents, particularly during nighttime traffic.

Zone-Wise Progress Report

According to GHMC data, the Secunderabad Zone has recorded the highest number of pothole repairs, followed by LB Nagar and Kukatpally zones. The zone-wise progress so far is as follows:

Zone Potholes Repaired: Secunderabad (3,263), LB Nagar (2,743), Kukatpally (2,308), Charminar (2,235), Khairatabad(1,987), and Serilingampally (1,576).

Round-the-Clock Monitoring

The GHMC has deployed additional machinery, quick-response teams, and technical staff to expedite the works.

Commissioner Karnan has instructed all zonal offices to complete pending stretches within the next few days and ensure that no fresh potholes are left unattended.

“Public safety and road quality are top priorities. All identified potholes will be filled within the set timeframe,” Karnan said.

Drive to continue till roads are restored

Officials added that the road safety drive will continue until all arterial and internal roads are fully restored. Continuous inspections are being carried out to assess the quality of the repairs, while feedback from citizens is also being reviewed through GHMC’s grievance channels.
