Hyderabad: A 29-year-old Bangalore techie was raped by a Facebook friend on the pretext of providing a job in Hyderabad.
According to Borabanda police, the woman, who worked as a software engineer for Virtusa Consultancy in Bangalore from 2022 to 2023, lost her job due to a lack of projects. She is a native of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.
While searching for a job online, she became acquainted with Narsimha Reddy through Facebook. Reddy convinced her to move to Hyderabad by offering job prospects. On May 15, she relocated with her husband and their 4-year-old son to Hyderabad.
On June 10, Reddy asked her to meet at KIES Consultancy in Vengal Rao Nagar, claiming he would help update her profile and secure a job within a month. Instead, he allegedly took her to a private room in the office, where he raped her.
The woman was initially unable to share the traumatic experience with her husband. The situation worsened when Lava Kumar, who works with Narsimha Reddy in KIES Consultancy, began harassing her with calls and messages. Kumar, who had received her contact information from Reddy, allegedly pressured her to meet him alone, promising a job in exchange for sexual favors.
Feeling distressed, the woman eventually revealed the incident to her husband. They went to the Borabanda Police Station on Friday to file a complaint. Police have registered the case, and an investigation is currently underway.
