Hyderabad: Psychiatrist falls in love with patient, marries only to face harassment; dies by suicide
Hyderabad: Seemingly fed up with her husband and in-laws' harassment, a 33-year-old psychiatrist ended her life at Sanathnagar Czech Colony in Hyderabad.
She has been identified as A.Rajitha. She was allegedly facing persistent harassment from her husband, Rohit, and his family.
Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by her father, Sub-Inspector Narsimha Goud.
According to police and family members, Rajitha, daughter of Sub-Inspector Narsimha Goud and a resident of Sanathnagar Czech Colony, met Rohit during her master’s degree in psychology. When she was interning at a mental hospital in Banjara Hills, Rohit had come as a patient. Rohit’s parents later acknowledged significant improvement in his mental health after her counseling.
Over time, Rohit—claiming to be a software engineer—expressed his love to Rajitha. Believing she could aid his recovery, and with the support of both families, Rajitha agreed to marry him.
After marriage, Rohit reportedly stopped working and spent Rajitha’s salary on parties and personal expenses. Employed as a child psychologist at a renowned international school, Rajitha repeatedly asked Rohit to change his behavior, but he refused. Allegedly, Rohit, his parents, Kishtaiah and Surekha, and his brother Mohit began to harass Rajitha. According to her family, Rohit physically assaulted her when she refused to give him money.
Unable to bear the ongoing abuse, Rajitha attempted suicide on July 16 by consuming sleeping pills and was admitted to a private hospital. Following her discharge, her parents brought her home to the Czech Colony. On July 28, she again attempted suicide by jumping from the bathroom window of their fourth-floor apartment, sustaining severe head injuries. She was admitted to a hospital in Ameerpet, where she was declared brain dead after medical tests. Rajitha passed away on Tuesday.
Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations of harassment leading up to her death.
