Places including Subzimandi, Kamela Road, Jhirra, and Puranapool reported complaints of strong smells

Pungent smell grips old city; residents feel nausea

Hyderabad: People experienced nausea and headache after a pungent odor gripped several areas in old city.

Residents who suspected gas leaks were forced to stay indoors and keep windows closed because of the odor. However, officials are yet to confirm the incident.

Places including Subzimandi, Kamela Road, Jhirra, Mangalghat, Begum Bazaar Jiyaguda, Darussalam, and Puranapool reported complaints of strong smells.


Residents near Tappachabutra, Bilal Masjid also complained of fogging and heavy smoke along with the bad smell.

Speaking to News Meter, a local resident, Ann Maria said, "It gave me nausea and made my head feel heavy. I had to shut all doors and windows to stop the headache."

A resident of the same area also complained of the smell. “I hope the leak or whatever it is can be contained and the source discovered so that it does not happen in the future. It may be dangerous and injurious to health,” Hussain Ali said.

Acting on the information of the local corporator, the officials of the Disaster Response Force visited the area, and are looking into the situation. "Our teams have searched every area, but there have been no reports of chemical leaks yet," said the Director of EV&DM.

Dr. Srikanth Reddy AMOH is said to have visited River Musi to collect water samples. The samples have been sent to the pollution control board. Results are yet to be confirmed.
