Hyderabad rains: HYDRAA to clear 50 truckloads of garbage in Bulkapur nala to prevent flooding
Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath has directed officials to clear nearly 50 truckloads of garbage piled up in Bulkapur nala to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and prevent flooding in surrounding areas.
Commissioner inspects nala clearance works
Commissioner Ranganath visited Bulkapur nala near Virat Nagar in Tolichowki and observed massive garbage accumulation within a 100-metre stretch.
He instructed staff to remove the waste without delay and avoid dumping garbage on the roadside, instead loading it directly onto trucks for disposal.
Though narrow lanes posed challenges for the movement of vehicles, local residents extended cooperation, enabling HYDRAA to intensify clearance works.
Key drainage route to Hussainsagar
The Bulkapur nala originates from Bulkapur lake in Shankarpalli, flows through Khanapur and Nagulapalli, fills Gandipet lake, and then crosses the Outer Ring Road to reach Hussainsagar via Narsingi, Puppalaguda, Manikonda, Raidurgam, Shaikpet, Tolichowkiās Hakimpet, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills Road No.12, Chintal Basti, Tummalabasti, and Khairatabad crossroads.
Residents expressed gratitude to HYDRAA for taking up long-pending clearance works in this historic nala.
Inspection of retaining wall collapse in Musheerabad
Later, the Commissioner inspected Padma Colony in Adikmet division under Musheerabad constituency, where a nala retaining wall recently collapsed, posing a threat to nearby houses.
Two families had been evacuated earlier as a precaution. Ranganath directed officials to rebuild the wall immediately. Locals requested the construction of a box drain with a width of 6-8 meters over a 500 metre stretch to facilitate vehicular movement.
The Commissioner assured that their proposal would be examined for feasibility.
Patny nala widening to be expedited
Reviewing nala works at the HYDRAA office, Commissioner Ranganath emphasised the need for early completion of Patny nala widening works in Secunderabad.
The review meeting was attended by Cantonment CEO Madhukar Nayak and officials from HMDA, Irrigation, Revenue, and the Cantonment Board. Officials explained that the narrowed nala earlier caused frequent flooding in six colonies upstream, but widening has now reduced the risk.
They said objections to constructing a retaining wall had delayed works, but recent floods underscored the urgent need for completion. āOnce these works are finished, the Patny area will also be safe from flooding,ā the Commissioner stated.
