Hyderabad: Serilingampally records the highest of 44.3 mm, Moosapet lowest at 8.5 mm
Hyderabad: After a brief dry spell, rains lashed Hyderabad on Thursday evening. The highest rainfall was recorded in Serilingampally, which logged 44.3 mm according to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society. At the other end of the spectrum, Moosapet recorded the lowest rainfall at 8.5 mm by 6:00 PM.
Skies remained overcast for most of the day, but rain arrived only by late afternoon. Several areas, including Kukatpally, Pragathi Nagar, Vivekananda Nagar, Miyapur, Moosapet, Gandimaisamma, Lakdikapul, Secunderabad, and Uppal, received moderate to heavy rainfall.
Commuters Caught in Evening Downpour
The timing of the rainfall caused widespread disruptions for those returning home from work. Waterlogging was reported across several major roads and flyovers, including Telugu Thalli, Khairatabad, Basheerbagh, Masab Tank, Narayanguda, Madhapur, and LB Nagar. Traffic movement slowed considerably in several stretches.
Monsoon Emergency Teams under HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Alert Agency) and Disaster Response Force (DRF) were on the ground conducting flood prevention and management operations. Control rooms of the GHMC, traffic police, fire department, and other civic bodies remained active throughout the evening.
Expert Opinion: Unpredictable Monsoon Phase
Meteorologist K. S. Sridhar described the current conditions as part of a ātemporary weakening of the monsoon.ā He explained that though scattered showers are expected to continue, they may not fully compensate for the rainfall deficit observed so far this season.
āWe expect some recovery with scattered showers in the coming days, but it may not be enough to compensate for the shortfall,ā Sridhar said. He also pointed out that changing ocean temperatures and atmospheric shifts are contributing to more erratic and unpredictable monsoon patterns.
