Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has called for heightened flood preparedness across departments.
This comes after water levels rose in Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar due to continuous rains in upstream areas.
MD inspects Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar
HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy visited Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs on Friday, accompanied by senior officials.
At Himayat Sagar, he reviewed inflow levels and assessed the overall situation. He emphasised that reservoir gate operations must be carried out without any compromise to ensure public safety.
High alert given heavy rain forecast
Citing the weather departmentās forecast of further heavy rains, Ashok Reddy instructed officials to remain on high alert.
He directed them to conduct round-the-clock monitoring using CCTV cameras and to increase patrolling around the reservoir areas to respond swiftly to any emergency.
Coordination with revenue and police officials
With inflows already entering the reservoirs, the MD alerted revenue and other concerned departments to stay prepared.
He asked officials to assess flood conditions continuously and maintain close coordination with the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district administrations, GHMC, and Hydra police to implement relief measures if required.
Pressure filter inspection at Gandipet conduit
Later, Ashok Reddy inspected the pressure filter installed at the Gandipet conduit, which supplies drinking water to Hyderabad.
He instructed officials to use it to its full capacity. He also visited the O&M Division-18 office at Manikonda to review water supply arrangements and ongoing operations.
Senior officials accompany MD
The inspection team included CGM Brijesh, GMs Srinivas Reddy and Santosh, along with officials from the transmission department.
