Hyderabad resident loses Rs 2 lakh to caller posing as credit card company agent
The caller instructed her to open her credit card app but she did not find the deactivation details in the app

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad resident was duped of more than Rs 2 lakh by a caller pretending to help her with deactivating her Credit Card Protection Plan.
Case details
The victim, a 46-year-old housewife from Hyderabad, received a call from 9144953236 regarding the deactivation of her Credit Card Protection Plan. The caller instructed her to open her credit card app but she did not find the deactivation details in the app.
The scammer then directed the victim to open the app using Google Chrome using a third-party link that he provided. Following the scammer's instructions, she entered her credit card details. Shortly after, the fraudster hacked her mobile phone, and she began to receive unauthorised transactions on her ICICI and American Express credit cards. Realising she was scammed, the victim immediately lodged a complaint with the ICICI Bank. She lost Rs 2,19,800 in total.
A case has been registered.
Public advisory
Never share your credit/debit card details, PINs, OTPs or passwords with anyone. Banks will never ask you to enter details via third-party links. Bank officials, financial institutions, RBI and any other genuine entity will never ask customers to share confidential information.
Verify calls from the bank by contacting customer service directly using the number on your card. Immediately report any suspicious activity or unauthorised transactions to your bank, cybercrime authorities, the National Cyber Crime Portal (https://www.cybercrime.gov.in/) or call 1930.
