Hyderabad: Residents thank HYDRAA for widening nalas and clearing lanes that were choking drains and also lake areas
Hyderabad: Residents from several colonies across Hyderabad expressed heartfelt thanks to HYDRAA for protecting their areas from flood threats. In a unique show of appreciation, they organised rallies and human chains at various locations.
Representatives from Ameerpet, Srinivas Nagar, Gayathri Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar gathered near Maitrivanam, displaying placards and voicing support for HYDRAA’s efforts.
No stagnation of water at Maitrivanam
They said, “Earlier, even 5 cm of rainfall would flood our colonies, but HYDRAA’s timely intervention has prevented floods this season.”
Residents of Ameerpet recalled how knee-deep water used to stagnate at Maitrivanam junction before HYDRAA cleaned the underground pipelines completely. Even after a recent 15 cm rainfall, there was no waterlogging, they noted, thanking HYDRAA’s efficiency.
Locals of Ambedkar Nagar said drainage water used to overflow onto roads due to silt accumulation, but HYDRAA’s action permanently resolved the issue.
“In just one year, HYDRAA has achieved remarkable results,” they said, thanking Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for personally visiting flood-prone areas, identifying the problems and assigning the task to HYDRAA.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited the sites multiple times to ensure the problems were fixed. “Those who travel this route know the earlier hardships — HYDRAA has solved them. We thank the Chief Minister for introducing such an effective system,” they added.
HYDRAA expands Patny nala, saves eight colonies from flooding
HYDRAA’s expansion of the Patny drain (nala) has saved eight colonies from flood threats, earning immense gratitude from local residents. People from Payiga Colony, Patny Colony, Viman Nagar, BHEL Colony and Indiramma Nagar took out rallies, recalling how every monsoon used to bring panic.
“Earlier, our homes and belongings would submerge in floodwaters. This year, we faced no such problems,” residents said. They explained that the Patny drain, originally 70 feet wide, had shrunk to just 15–18 feet over the years, causing water to overflow into nearby colonies.
HYDRAA restored it to its original width, permanently resolving the decades-old issue.
“For 30 years, we suffered heavy losses — cars were submerged, and we incurred lakhs of rupees in damage. HYDRAA solved the issue within days of our complaint,” locals said with joy.
Residents of Divya Nagar Layout express gratitude
Residents of Divya Nagar Layout in Pocharam Municipality — 2,218 plot owners — expressed overwhelming gratitude to HYDRAA for restoring access to their properties. “We can’t thank HYDRAA enough. That’s why we are holding this rally again today,” they said on Thursday.
They recalled the dark days when road and park encroachments had blocked all access to their plots. HYDRAA’s intervention removed those illegal structures, finally allowing them to reach their land. “If not for HYDRA, we would never have seen our plots again,” the residents said emotionally.
On January 25, HYDRAA demolished a 4-kilometre-long compound wall illegally built around the 200-acre Divya Layout. The wall had been constructed under the supervision of Nallamalla Reddy, who restricted entry, forcing plot owners to seek HYDRAA’s help.
Residents recalled, “We weren’t even allowed to visit our own plots. We had to sign in at the gate, and even then, access depended on their approval. If we questioned them, they would threaten or assault us. HYDRAA tore down those barriers and freed our land.”
Walls down, roads open between colonies
With the 4-km-long compound wall demolished, several colonies — including Ekashila Layout, Venkataadri Township, Suprabhath Venture-1, Maheshwari Colony, Kachavani Singaram, Ekashila–Peerjadiguda Road, Balaji Nagar, Suprabhath Ventures 2, 3, and 4, VG Heights Colony, Pratap Singaram Road, Saipriya, Medipally, Parvathapuram, and Chennareddy Colony — have now regained access.
Residents said they can now visit and show their plots freely. “Earlier, we were allowed to enter only at fixed times. Every detail had to be entered in a register. It felt like imprisonment,” they recalled.
Locals from Parvathapuram, Mirjalaguda Municipality, also joined the protest, saying HYDRAA even reclaimed land illegally occupied from Muslim and Christian cemeteries.
“HYDRAA restored our dignity and rights,” residents said in unison, chanting slogans of gratitude during their rally in Divya Nagar Layout.
