Y. Laxman alleged that the hotel owner failed to repair the malfunctioning lift, resulting in a life-altering accident.
According to Banjara Hills police, the incident took place on March 11 this year. Laxman, who had been working as a cook at Hotel Sarvi located on Road No.1, Banjara Hills, was preparing to start his day when tragedy struck.
He stepped into the lift on the fourth floor, unaware that it was stationed on the fifth floor. The consequences were devastating - he plummeted from the fourth floor to the ground level of the lift shaft.
As a result of the accident, Laxman sustained grievous injuries including fractures in both legs. To make matters worse, the lift itself landed on him, exacerbating his injuries.
In his statement, Laxman accused the hotel owner of negligence, claiming that the lift was left unrepaired despite being aware of its faulty condition. He further alleged that the owner also recklessly opened the lift grills in the absence of a stationed lift, resulting in the accident.
Initially, the hotel owner promised to take full responsibility for Laxman's medical treatment and provided him with monthly maintenance during his recovery period.
Believing the owner's assurances, Laxman refrained from lodging a complaint. However, things took a drastic turn when the owner suddenly turned hostile two months ago. Instead of fulfilling his promises, the owner stopped supporting Laxman's treatment and even threatened him with dire consequences if he returned to the hotel.
Laxman, who belongs to a scheduled caste community, feels betrayed and cheated by the hotel owner's actions. Feeling helpless and seeking justice, he finally approached the Banjara Hills police on Friday with his complaint.
A case has been booked on the owner of Sarvi Hotel under section 337 and 506 of IPC.
