Hyderabad saw 2,498 drunk driving cases on New Year's eve
Around 1,265 cases were booked under the Hyderabad commissionerate, 873 in the Cyberabad commissionerate, and 360 in the Rachakonda commissionerate.

The maximum cases were booked under the Hyderabad commissionerate limits followed by Cyberabad and Rachakonda, according to the traffic authorities.
Around 1,265 cases were booked under the Hyderabad commissionerate, 873 in the Cyberabad commissionerate, and 360 in the Rachakonda commissionerate.
To prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents on New Year's eve, the traffic police had formed over 250 teams to conduct drunk driving checks in the three commissionerate limits.
Besides booking cases against those caught driving under the influence of alcohol and for violating traffic rules, the traffic police also seized several two-wheelers, cars, and auto-rickshaws. Cases were booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 against drunk drivers. They will be produced before the court in due course of time after filing charge-sheets, the authorities said.
As per the High Court directions, the city police had appealed to the public not to drink and drive and had clearly stated that check-posts would be set up at every point to conduct checks. It had also announced extra patrols for the night.
