Hyderabad: Siddharth booked for passing sexist remarks against Saina Nehwal

Hyderabad: Cyber Crime wing of Hyderabad police on Wednesday registered a case against actor Siddharth for passing alleged derogatory remarks against badminton player Saina Nehwal.

The actor was booked after Prerna Thiruvaipati and Neelam Bhargava Ram lodged a written complaint. He was booked for two offenses under section 67 of the Information Technology Act( publishing obscene material in electronic form) and Section 509 of IPC(intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Siddharth had made the allegedly derogatory comment against Nehwal in response to her tweet on the issue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security breach in Punjab a few days ago.

Later under pressure, the actor apologized to Saina on social media.

"Dear Saina, I want to apologize to you for the rude joke that I wrote as a response to a tweet of yours, a few days ago. I may disagree with you on many things but even my disappointment or anger when I read your tweet, cannot justify my tone and words. I know I have more grace in me than that. As for the joke... If a joke needs to be explained, then it wasn't a very good joke, to begin with. Sorry about a joke that didn't land," he said in the letter.
