Hyderabad: Siddipet Traffic ACP Suman Kumar, 3 others held in drunken driving case

By Newsmeter Network Published on 14 Nov 2024 2:18 AM GMTHyderabad: Police have taken Siddipet Traffic ACP Suman Kumar into custody for preventing cops from taking a drunken driving test of his businessman friend at SR Nagar. Three associates traveling with him were also taken into custody.
According to Madhura Nagar Inspector Srinivas Varma, the incident occurred around midnight on Tuesday. ACP Suman Kumar along with businessman Jaipal Reddy and two other associates were en route to SR Nagar from Ameerpet in a Safari vehicle when the incident occurred.
As they reached SR Nagar metro station, they noticed traffic police from Sanjeev Reddy Nagar conducting a drunk driving check. Sensing trouble, the man driving the carāwho was reportedly intoxicatedāmoved to the back seat, while another passenger switched to the driverās seat.
Lady Constable Kaveri, who was on duty, noticed the seat swap and alerted her superiors, suspecting that the original driver was trying to evade the breathalyzer test.
When traffic police stopped the car to conduct a breathalyzer test on the new driver, ACP Suman Kumar allegedly alighted from the car and tried to prevent the officers from discharging their duty. He reportedly instructed the cops not to conduct the test and release the vehicle. He prevented the original driver from taking the breathalyzer test, physically pushed one of the constables, thumped the carās bonnet, and verbally abused the officers, causing a disturbance at the scene.
As the situation escalated, the traffic police alerted the Madhura Nagar police station. Officers from Madhura Nagar arrived at the scene, detained the driver, and conducted a breathalyzer test, which confirmed that Jaipal Reddy, the businessman, was intoxicated with a blood alcohol content 39 points over the legal limit.
Jaipal Reddy, a businessman from Alwal, was subsequently identified as the driver. ACP Suman Kumar, along with two associates, M. Srinivas and G. Venkatarao, were also detained. All four were taken into custody, and a case has been registered on the complaint given by Sanjeev Reddy Nagar Traffice sub inspector G. Kantha Rao, under section 132, 238, 221 r/w 3(5) BNS, 185, 188, and 205 of the Motor Vehicle Act by the Madhura Nagar police, who are conducting further investigations.
