Unseen Heatwave: Surge in illnesses across Hyderabad as humid nights prevent body from cooling

Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spike of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the day temperature in Hyderabad.

Why have the temperatures increased?

A recent shift in regional weather patterns is the primary culprit. According to the IMD, a weather system, specifically a trough that previously extended from North Odisha down to the Vidarbha region, has weakened significantly. While wind discontinuity continues from the Gulf of Mannar up to the Coastal Andhra region, the dissipation of the earlier weather system has paved the way for completely dry weather over Telangana.

With no moisture-bearing clouds or rain systems to bring a cooling effect, this dry spell is causing maximum temperatures to gradually climb over the next three days.

Despite the rising heat, the local forecast remains consistent across all major city zones, including Charminar, Khairathabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Seri Lingampally.

IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky with hazy conditions very likely to prevail during the early morning hours on March 5.

As the day progresses, Hyderabad's maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature will offer some nighttime relief, settling at around 21°C.
