Hyderabad: Police have registered a case after a woman filed a complaint of gross medical negligence and fraud against doctors at Soumya Multi-Speciality Hospital, Karkhana.
On September 16, Karkhana police received a complaint from Basireddy Sunitha about medical negligence and fraud at Soumya Multi-Speciality Hospital.
Sunitha stated that she had undergone surgery in 2022 at the hospital for a benign lump in her left breast. All reports, including histopathology and the discharge summary, confirmed non-cancerous findings, and she was advised routine follow-up.
During a follow-up in September 2024, she was referred for a biopsy of the left breast. However, the biopsy was allegedly carried out on the right breast without her consent, based only on an incidental finding not backed by any diagnostic evidence.
She further alleged that the October 3, 2024, biopsy report falsely recorded her age as 74 instead of 54, while another report dated October 10, 2024, wrongly mentioned a history of DCIS (carcinoma). This was later manually corrected with a pen after she raised objections.
Believing the doctors, Sunitha underwent urgent surgery for suspected cancer. Later, she grew suspicious and obtained the biopsy slides and tissue block, which were independently examined.
Reports from Dr. Mahendra Parage (Life Oncopath) and AIIMS Bibinagar confirmed a mismatch between the slide and the tissue block, indicating possible falsification.
She alleged that Dr. S. Chandrasekhar Rao, Dr. S. Soumya, Dr. D. Soumya, and Dr. Pooja Boggaram, along with hospital staff, manipulated medical records, fabricated biopsy results, and misrepresented a cancer diagnosis to fraudulently induce her into surgery, causing her to pay ₹1,00,000. The complaint states this led to grievous physical harm, emotional trauma, financial loss, and the risk of insurance claim denial.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered against the doctors of Soumya Multi Speciality Hospital under Sections 318(4), 316(2), 125, and 49 r/w 3(5) BNS. The matter is currently under investigation.
